A healthy, customized skincare routine is excellent, but let’s be honest – if you want to see significant changes in your skin, professional skin treatments are the ticket. Innovative treatments like chemical peels, laser treatments, and so on can make a tremendous difference in giving you a revitalized complexion. Did you know, though, that your skin care at home will affect your results from these treatments?

In fact, in many of these treatments, it’s actually the healing that produces the results because your healing process is what builds skin-firming collagen – professional treatments just trigger that process in a controlled and safe way. If you’re planning on investing in yourself with a skin treatment, make sure you have a plan for caring for your skin after the procedure. Follow these tips to make your results truly spectacular.

Use Post-Procedure Skin Care Products

There’s an entire category of skin care products that are specially developed to be used after a skin treatment to enhance your results, and they can truly work wonders. Take the Exo|E Skin Revitalizing Complex for example. This is one of our favorite products in our collection, and it’s a game-changer. It uses plant stem cells to enhance the healing process, so you heal faster and get better results too.

Be a Skin Care Tyrant for Yourself

After a skin treatment is not the time to play it fast and loose with your skin care. Your treatment provider will give you instructions on how to care for your skin post-procedure, like when to cleanse your face first, what products to avoid, and so on. Those instructions are there for a reason (to both give you better results and reduce your risk for potential side effects) so follow them to the letter.

Step Up Your SPF

We know you’re a smart cookie so of course you’re already wearing sunscreen daily *wink.* But after a skin treatment, your sun protection becomes even more important. Many treatments make your skin more susceptible to sun damage while you’re healing. This is primarily the case with treatments like chemical peels, microneedling, or Morpheus8 RF microneedling rather than treatments that won’t puncture or exfoliate your skin like non-invasive skin tightening.

While you’re healing, sunscreen is non-negotiable: apply it 15 minutes before you go outside every time. Make sure it’s a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

Pretend You Have Sensitive Skin…Because, for Now, You Do

After your skin treatment, you want to keep inflammation to a minimum. Any new inflammation during your healing process can make healing take longer and, in some people, could give you a risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (long-lasting light brown spots in areas that were inflamed). Stick to products that are safe for sensitive skin, even if non-sensitivity-safe products normally don’t irritate your skin.
